The Brief

In the UX SCHOOL DESIGN THINKING CASE STUDY TRAINING, our mentor Enis Altınkaynak (Senior Product Designer) asked us to examine and research a problem we see in our environment with the design thinking method and to produce appropriate and effective solutions accordingly and to come up with a design. The Process

Design History

Ece is a 22-year-old white-collar worker. She just moved to Istanbul and wants to start working out right away, but she can't manage it. She complains about not being able to establish a sports and nutrition routine, not being able to find a gym that suits her both in terms of time and cost, and skipping meals at work. She thinks that this situation negatively affects her work and personal life.

My Design Thinking Process

Empathize — Define — Ideate — Prototype — Test

First, I tried to empathize with our target audience, working individuals, by making observations and short interviews to understand their daily lives and sports habits. The short interviews we conducted made a great contribution to our problem definition.

After defining the problem, I conducted face-to-face user interviews to better understand the appropriate audience for this problem. I made an empathy map after the interview to understand the physical and emotional needs of the users, what they use and why, how they think and what they mean.

As a result of Netnography studies, User Interviews, Empathy map, I created 2 personas and drew a roadmap for these personas. By analyzing the data I obtained, I identified the challenges and needs of employees to do sports, such as the high cost of doing sports, lack of time, overcrowding in gyms, excessive access time to gyms and lack of motivation.

I conducted Storyboard and Crazy 8's work to address issues and generate creative ideas. I prepared concept storyboards to better understand the roadmap and to did Crazy 8's study to elaborate the ideas in the storyboard and reach the idea that suits us. It was at this stage that the idea of opening gyms in metro stations emerged and seemed the most suitable option to meet the needs of users.

I prototyped the best idea we chose to test it. I made revisions after the prototype with the feedback I received as a result of the test.

METRO EVERYWHERE, SPORT EVERYWHERE.

The Results

As a result of this research, which we conducted with the Design Thinking method, the idea of opening gyms in subway stations proved to have great potential. This idea has emerged as an effective solution that can help working individuals improve their exercise habits and adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Gyms in metro stations will facilitate time management and increase motivation of users by offering them the opportunity to work out during break times at work, during transit from work or home. Furthermore, the accessibility and affordability of these facilities has the potential to attract a wider user base.
